I know how lucky I am, I really do...Just got back from Phillippines. Yup, another trip out of Singapore. But this trip's different. U'll see why. Coz my sis often tells me how lucky I am to be born in Singapore and that I should be grateful for what I have. She's been to Manila, the capital of Phillippines, too many times. Coz she's got a group of great friends there, Sylvia (whose son, Matthew, is the god-son of my sis), Christopher, Bon and many more. So she often flies there to catch up with the latest gossip happening in Philly and of coz with her god-son. I wanted to go there since a long time ago but nv got the chance till the budget air came along!!
Thank god for that! and I managed to fly there by Tiger Airways, paid 80 over bucks for a return air tix and I have absolutely NO COMPLAINTS about Tiger Airways at all!!
Oh, back to the trip... It's meant to be a relaxing trip for me, shopping and had the luxury to go to a spa massage. WAIT! I'm suppose to feel how lucky I am, rem? So let's not talk about the luxurious part and the great food that I had but the scenes I saw in Manila. Despite it being the capital of Philly, it's nothing compared to what I expect it to be. The streets are really dusty, and the traffic's really bad!
They say if you can drive in Manila, you can drive ANYWHERE in the world... I'm not kidding coz I got the experience of being on the road in Sylvia's car and gosh... I'm impressed by Sylvia's driving skills.
You reading this Sylvia? =) I'm also appalled by the way the people drive there, barging and cutting and overtaking. WOWWOW... Too much for me!
While the rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer... There're people standing in the middle of the road, trying to sell ALL KINDS of stuff. From crackers, to cigarettes, to cloth, to brooms and even hp chargers. With the traffic like that in Manila, it's a real dangerous job for them to be walking thru the cars. Homeless sleeping on the streets, under the bridges, and begging for money in the streets. And when you see how young these kids can be, my heart really goes out to them. I remember I was carrying Matthew outside this supermarket and there was this small child (maybe about 4 or 5 yrs old), standing just infront of me, speaking to me in their native language, begging me for money.
I'm not blind, I do see the sufferings but there's only so much that I can do. I know how lucky I am, I really do...
